How long to set user folder rights

i have a windows 2003 AD and a windows 2003 storage svr. The folders are shared using groups.

I would create nerw users and add then to the groups so that they can access the shared folders.

Is there a timing of how long it takes to set these rights as if i add the users into the rights instead of the groups, it takes effect almost immediately, but if intothe group, it will take quite a long while.
