BSoD
Win98 Se machine When I run spybot s &d I am getting the blue screen of death with the error message of "a fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:c027fa53 in vxdvmm(06) + 00003af3. The current application will terminated.
* Press any key to terminate apps *Press cntr-aly-del key to restart computer" What would cause this and what can I do to fix it please? I appreciate any help. TIA |

If the error *only* occurs while running SpyBot (and at no other times), a good first try would be to simply uninstall your current version of SpyBot, and download a fresh version (make sure you get one compatible with Win98se). In the past, out-of-date McAffee and Norton antivirus programs have caused this sort of error, and incomplete ZoneAlarm uninstallations have caused these errors also. Bad memory can cause these errors, too - so you might as well rule that out. Test your system memory module with MemTest86 http://www.memtest.org --- Generally, though, when the memory is bad, the errors strike many places at random. You might visit Windows Update if you haven't recently, just to grab any missing patches. We are nearing the end of support for Win98se, but I imagine the downloads will remain available for quite a while (even though the official MS fee-based support ends this summer). Best of luck . . .
