Machine Check Exception

Evenin all,

Long time no see (again), sorry I only pop back when I have a problem but I'm so busy nowadays I don't have time to answer questions on the forums anymore. Hope you're all keeping well.

OK, here goes. Just recently my shuttle has been playing up. I got STOP: MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION when copying files over from my digital camera on USB

I restarted and everything was fine, I tried again and got the same STOP error

I am now getting the error on every boot, just after the num/caps/scroll locks flash and the screen flickers just before the desktop should appear during startup

Safe Mode works fine, Safe mode (with networking) interestingly has the same error on boot.

The system is automatically restarting as soon as the screen appears, I have changed the setting when in safe mode but it doesn't seem to have held, as the machine just restarts anyway.

Any ideas what could be causing this? And more importantly, how to fix the thing!

Thanks again,

Jim

Went through the laborious process of uninstalling devices. It's booting up now since I removed the network card, will reinstall stuff and keep you updated (OK so threads like these aren't very helpful, until you have a similar problem yourself ;-))

OK this is the weirdest thing ever.

My girlfriend threw one of those firecrackers at me the other day (the harmless little paper things you get about 100 for £1 and they make a little bang) and some of the stones from inside must have dropped into my open case

I just turned it upside down and some fell out. Turned the box on and no errors. Reinstalled everything and no problems

So just to clarify, if you do get Machine Check Exception it's usually because someone threw a firecracker at you :-D
