XP Takes forever to shutdowm?

New build with a clean install of XP home. All updates have been installed. Startup is quick and everything is normal. Shutdown is another subject, it doesn't matter is its a restart or a shutdown, it takes 2-3 min. It goes through all the right steps of saving personal setting and logging off.
The software I have installed now is virtually the same package as have on my other box, and it shuts down is 15 seconds or so.

Any ideas? things I need to check?

Thanks

Still having trouble...

Thanks for the article, the site has some good info on it. From what I read in the article, that applies to only Win2000 or XP Pro. I'm using XP Home. I followed the outline and I do not have the "Group Policy Editor".

I went the MS KB and found this article (314834). It allows you to enable/disable the "Clear virtual memory pagefile" from the registry.

It is enabled on my system (with a value of 1). If I change the value to "0" will that disable it?
What are the consequences of disabling this? I'm on a home desktop that is not hooked a network, so I don't think I'm in danger of having data left in the pagefile.

Thanks!

Often times a pc will hang while trying to shut down running programs. Have you used MSCONFIG to evaluate what items are running automatically on startup? Perhaps unchecking unnecessary items will prevent this shut down delay. Use the link to determine if items in Startup are necessary or not.

I've checked all the Startup processes. I think I've narrowed it down to the Virtual Memory Page file.

If I change the value to "0" will that disable it?

Just set it to "No Paging File" and give it a try.
