remove registry reference to unused file ?
I'm getting a boot up message: " cannot find file 'load =', remove reference to this file"
There is no information as to what program this relates to. I cannot find the file with ' search'. Cleaned out unneccesary registry files with Easy Cleaner' but its still there. Well , somewhere . Can someone tell me how to get rid of it. Thanks |

Try running msconfig (Start>Run type in msconfig) and go through the system.ini and win.ini files through this interface to see if the blank load= statement may be there.

It may be that an item is checked to load at startup and it has previously been removed by a scanning tool. I've seen the same thing before. Run>MSCONFIG and check the Startup tab for all items set to run at startup. Uncheck any that are not needed by using this site for a guide.

Thanks. Yes it was in msconfig, and its a recent file as its one of only 4 checked.
I deselected it and the bootup message is gone. I don't see 'run' or 'load=' in registry at the end of the location given in msconfig. Start up item.............. Location load = ............... HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\currentversion\run Its not listed in the sysinfo.org/startup list but most items there with 'load 'type names are trojans. What do you think ? Delete from start up with something like MsconfigCleanup? or, let sleeping dogs lie ? |

If you don't get the notice at startup, I'd run something like CCleaner to clean up the Registry and call it good.
