Tri Boot...except not
So, here's the issue. When I turn on this computer, I get three options of Operating System Choice, XP Home, XP Pro, and another XP Home. The second two choices don't exist though. Is there a way to get rid of those choices/automatically chose choice 1 without having to wait thirty seconds or sit around waiting to manually choose it?
And here's the backstory. My friend was having some computer issues, so I volunteered to help. There's was something wrong with his windows installation, a missing file or something. He originally had XP Home SP2 before the problem. After it happened, before seeking help, he repartitioned the drive and installed XP Pro on it to see if he could access his files that were stuck on it, of course, it didn't work out. So I finally got the computer, popped in the windows disk, used the recovery console, and the XP Home install was working with all the new XP Pro files from the second partition perfectly accessible. On the other hand, the XP Home files were not accesible from the XP Pro install. What's stranger, is that it seemed like XP Pro was installed on top of XP Home, because it was operating off of "Windows2" in the C: drive while XP Home had been operating off "Windows" on the same drive. Both folders were visible right next to eachother once XP Home was working again, it was strange. Well, I figured, I might as well back up all his documents and just wipe the computer clean. So I did, and then reinstalled XP Home SP2.

You'll have to modify your boot.ini file
Start -> Right click "My Computer" -> Click "Properties" -> Click the "Advanced" tab -> Click "Settings" under the "Startup and Recovery" box -> Click "Edit" under the "System startup" box -> Remove entries that are not needed. If you need help, don't hesitate to post the contents of the boot.ini file for us to look over. |
