Renameing a File in My Docs

For some reason i cannot rename files in the folder My Documents XP Home SP2 ? i know i used to, have i unwillingly changed a setting to cause this ? if any one can please help i will be grateful, thank you Fizz.

What is the file type? Do you have complete permissions to the folder (can you create or delete any other file)? Is there an error message that you get when trying to rename the file?

This goes for all files in my docs i can make a new folder and name it OK but if i try to rename anything that is put in i get this message

That message is because you're changing the "file extension."

Need to go to Tools->Folder Options->View and uncheck hide files for know types....

Then you should see the extensions like .doc, .jpg which you probably don't want to change...
