For the life of him he can't remember the password

Hi all,
My neighbor is an elderly man and he thought he was putting a new user name and pass word in his verizon dsl account in fact he did it in windows account management.
Now when he boots his computer it asks for his password.
For the life of him he can't remember the password. How can I get in there to change all that to get him out of this mess.
I appreciate any help I can get on this.
Windows XP Home
Dan

As you know work arounds for passwords are not allowed here, any chance you can save his personal stuff to a slave drive or some CD's (if it's not too much) and do a format and reinstall of Windows?

Boot omto safe mode and see if the default adminstrator account is on the system. Can fix his account from there from there.

For people who haven't set passwords, the password is usually blank. However, if the regular username is still inaccessible, try using a blank password for the "Administrator" account. To get to it, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome screen and enter the username as Administrator and try a blank password.
If you get in, you can go to the Control Panel > User Accounts and reset the password on the regular account (or if you would like to disable the login screen and login directly, please post a new thread).
Finally, I dont know how worth your time is but: http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm is a good source of information.

Now this thread must get closed down, as we dont allow any information for backdoor-ing into the system. Thanks for understanding.
