Making a custom boot disk.
I'm trying to make a very functional DOS boot disk. But I dont really know how to add .sys driver files to the boot process. I am trying to make the boot disk use the QHIMEM, QDMA, QCDROM drivers. I want to use then together with NTFS4DOS so I can get as much speed/functionality out of DOS that I can.
Could anyone tell me a way of doing this, I'm kind of at a loss. |

I haven't added drivers to a bootdisk in a while - one reason is that bootdisk.com has so many already put together, and available as free-of-charge downloads.
If you haven't looked at their bootdisks before, they are at http://www.bootdisk.com They have pre-made bootdisks with NTFSDOS, as well as several of the other tools you mentioned. Tweaking one to your exact needs should be as simple as adding a few files to it. Best of luck . . . Gary [P.S. ... if you are considering DOS tools for repair situations on recent model computers, I'd recommend also looking at several of the CD-based tools = some based on Linux (such as Knoppix) or the Windows PE (such as Bart's PE), - - - or a disk such as "The Ultimate Boot CD" (widely configurable) ] Last edited by GaryRouth; 06-13-2006 at 03:21 AM. |

Its ok, I've been doing some research and I think I'm getting close to completing my project. I'm attempting to put all these things together with Windows 3.1 on my USB key. If my computer ever screws up again I want to still be able to do alot of stuff I used to. I've succesfully installed 3.1 on the usb key and it works with NTFS4DOS since during the installation it searched my harddrive for programs. 3.1 is good for this since it just lays ontop of dos.
If I get everything to work properly I may post something on portableapps. |
