Hello!
Maybe some of you have an good advice for the following problem: after an upgrate of the latest AntiVir version a pop up window asked to block a rundll-access. Because of not knowing what it is (and no possibility to ask somebody) I choosed to block it. After that most of the programm icons (with exe-endings...) disappeared. Now to open a programm I always have to choose from a folder of installed programms (a lot of programms are not listed, especially these for the system control...).. Immediately I tried to do a system restoration, but an access to that programm is impossible as well as to the whole system control :-(. As well it is impossible to deinstall the ZoneAlarm). Whether the repair programm of Microsoft Windows XP worked nor a new installation (over the former version). The repair programm countnīt find the following files - they are not deleted, but blocked or damaged : rundll.exe regsvr32.exe setup50.exe logagent.exe unregmp2.exe grpconv.exe I donīt know if it was my mistake to block the rundll file (it seems like it...) or if it is a virus, worm or whatever. If sombody has an idea beside cleaning and formating the hard disk and installe the whole system again I would be very thankful! Please excuse my English, it is not my mother language... Thank you very much in advance!!! Best wishes, BassX |

If you have any backups of necessary data, you might be best off just trying a clean install. If you have no backups at all - you could place the hard drive in an external USB 2.0 enclosure, and save your sensitive data using another computer, and then proceed with the clean install.
But you do mention that you would like to try to avoid having to perform the clean install, so here's a last-ditch try: - disconnect from any networks, wired or wireless (unplug cables or wireless adapters) - see if you can start the computer in Safe Mode (start tapping the F8 key as the computer is powering on). - see if you can access the Control Panel in Safe Mode. - if yes, uninstall Zone Alarm and AntiVir. - see if the computer starts normally - reinstall a firewall and antivirus. [You could try again with ZoneAlarm & AntiVir - and see if you have better luck this time, or you can try a different mix of products]. - reconnect to your networks Best of luck . . . Gary |
