OS: Windows XP Media Center Edition (modified to permit joining a domain)
Hardware: HP/Compaq Presario NX1750 I have a Fuji 2650 Digital Camera that connects by the USB cable. It used to be that as soon as it was plugged in and turned on, the system would recognize that a camera had been plugged in and bring up the Scanners and Cameras Wizard. Now it doesn't, and I can't figure out why. I'm pretty sure it would also bring up the Wizard when the camera's xD memory card was plugged into the builtin memory-card reader, and it won't do that anymore either. Question 1: How come it quit working? Question 2: How can I start the Wizard manually? Help says to right click the camera in the Scanners and Cameras folder of the control panel, and select Run Scanners and Cameras Wizard. Problem with that is that the camera is not showing up in the Scanners and Cameras folder. In fact, it's empty. I looked for programs to run manually, and the only thing that looked probable was "photowiz.dll" I tried running that with rundll32, but nothing happened. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Does the xD card show up as a removable drive in My Computer when you plug it into the reader?

Did you try restarting you computer that helps sometimes
!!! If not try this: Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures ... Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures ...

Problem solved
Never mind, I solved my problem.
Someone in microsoft.public.windowsxp.photos had posted exactly the same problem, and the solution worked for me. It seems that some program that had been installed (probably Rhapsody from Real Networks, but not certain) had removed the Autoplay registry entries. Uninstalling the program and running a Microsoft program called Autofix restored the entries, and then it worked right. Thanks for the replies. |
