Windows XP authenticity problem
I bought a computer, which has XP pro installed. I've had it for about a month, and everything is working fine, till the other day. A message appeared saying that this version may be a pirate copy. I have bought a genuine version of windows xp home edition. What i want to know is, do i have to format the hard drive, and then re install the new version of windows, or can i do an re install over the original copy of XP Pro ?
Can anyone help me ? Regards Charmac |

You cannot convert XP Pro to XP Home, you will need to do a reinstall.

Does this mean i have to back up all my files, or by doing a reinstall with XP Home, will it overwrite the XP pro version automatically without losing any data ?

You will need to backup your data and reinstall XP Home. It will overwrite everything in its path (depending on how your master drive is set up).

Win XP Pro Back to Win XP Home
If I originally had XP Home on my computer and both are listed on the startup screen can I go back without formatting the computer? If I have to format the computer can I use the original Win XP Home Key? Thanks in advance, WolfpackRon.

You can use the original XP Home key if you are installing XP Home.
