Password Setting
Using windows 2003 server, How do I set my password complexity to minimum of 6 character (all small letters) and 1 numeric? I tried going to password complexity but it does not give me that option.
Thanks |

Hi JUNG2
If you wish the rule to require a minimum of 6 charactrers, and at least one number, you don't have to do anything - that is the strong password rule that is in effect as the default setting for Windows 2003 Server. " By default Windows Server 2003 requires passwords to meet the following criteria for strong passwords. 1) Has at least 6 characters 2) Does not contain "Administrator" or "Admin" 3) Contains characters from three of the following categories: ...a) Uppercase letters (A, B, C, and so on) ...b) Lowercase letters (a, b, c, and so on) ...c) Numbers (0, 1, 2, and so on) ...d) Non-alphanumeric characters (#, &, ~, and so on) " You have detailed control over many security settings in 2003 Server, using Domain Security Policies - here's a brief intro to a handy Wizard that's included in 2003 since SP1, the "Security Configuration Wizard" - seems like it might be just the kind of tool you'd find helpful. http://redmondmag.com/columns/articl...itorialsID=984 Best of luck . . . Gary P.S. --- if you really, really want just to disable the built-in password complexity & choose the password security settings one step at a time - here's a tutorial for that as well http://www.my-sanity.com/windows_2003_server.htm Last edited by GaryRouth; 06-15-2006 at 01:51 AM. |
