TAPI3 files but no Telephony Listed
I am trying to determine why my TAPI files are in their appropriate directories, but Telephony is not listed under Services.
svchost.exe is listed in Taks Manager | Processes (6xs) Start | Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options generates the following message: "Phone And Modem control panel can not be opened. You may have a problem starting telephony service." Modem does work. Mighty Fax is my fax software, it does not require telephony. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark |

See if this helps: http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBT/tip9500/rh9505.htm
However, if your fax program doesn't need Telephony, nor does any other program you wish to run, you can leave the Telephony service disabled. It has been a source of security vulnerabilities in the past, though these have largely been patched. If you do enable Telephony for whatever reason, visit Windows Update soon afterwards, just to see if you'll need to download a patch or two. Best of luck . . . Gary |
