What is Vista?
Okay, stupid question, but I've just heard about Vista coming out soon. I know Vista is Microsoft's new Operating system, but whould it be worth it to wait for Vista or just install XP on my upcoming build? Thanks

What are your plans for "upcoming build"?
What is the primary use for the new build? |

I personally would wait and buy vista instead of buying xp. I'm sure alot of people will say that they dont plan on buying vista becuase what they use is good enough for them... You could just build your computer and install vista beta just to see how it is and to see if you like it better then xp but keep in mind that it is beta and not finished so it should have some bugs.. If your going to wait you could always install linux untill vista comes out next year.

I'd wait. New products of any kind are bound to have bugs and issues, so it's best to let other people try them out. Plus, there aren't a whole lot of new features in Vista, and there might be a lot of misfeatures. I'm going to be sticking with Windows XP for a long time I think.

XP, imo, is the way to go. XP has been out for a while and MS is still releasing patches to make it run smoother and be more secure. Vista, is bound to have some glitches and bugs that will need to be worked out and in all honesty, it is (ATM) demanding a pretty heavy duty computer to run smoothly. Besides, waiting until then means that its just that much more time that you are without a new computer, that in itself is more than enough to make me build the pc now and install XP.

Okay Doc, I'll ask.
What does "Percipio et pario" mean? Latin? Percipio=Preception? Pario=Create? None of the online translators have helped. Mark PS - How many others have asked? |

My computer plans are for moderate gaming, maybe two or three games on it. Other than that, just some word processing maybe some video watchin, but thats not a primary spot for me. If I build it in a few months, XP is on, if I need more time to save up, then I could put Vista on it. I'm very used to XP, I think its a great operating system. I don't think I would have a problem with XP on with Vista out.

Games probably aren't going to require Vista for some time yet, so that's not going to be an immediate issue. There's a huge number of XP machines out there, and I don't think there will be a mass migration to Vista as soon as it comes out, so game makers are going to have to pay attention to that.

The general rule is never to use any OS until the first service pack is issued.

Agreed.
I wouldn't install Vista just yet. If you have a new computer to simply play with it, you can get the beta version just released to the public this week. I have already done that for testing purposes only. I wouldn't trust it with precious data just yet... XP is a great OS. I intend to continue using it for as long as support is available. I did the same thing with Windows 98 SE. XP was several years past the release date before I finally began using it on all of my machines. I tend to like "tried and tested". I never bothered with Milennium Edition after I saw all the customer problems with it. -Kev

It seems upcoming games won't require Vista, which will save me money. And when they do, another reason for another build. People still use 98, probably one of the most reliable I've heard of. ME was really crappy, we had a Syatemax (stay away) with it on and it crashed in a few months. Then 2000 pro came out, that was way better. But I think XP is the way to go.

Not quite true... there is already at least one already, and neither is done yet lol, that will require it to work best. Directx10 apparently will only work on vista too so anygames that need it to run their best will need vista. |
