Talking windows xp theme

I like to use windows xp in the classic view. but when i restart my computer it switches back to xp theme and then i have to change it back by right clicking on my desktop and selecting display properties and then selecting apperance, then i have to switch back to windows classic style. Is there anyway to make win xp keep my windows classic style and not switch back to win xp style.?

Hi JunkYardJeff

If this is your home machine, and you have administrative rights, you shouldn't have to worry about Policies keeping you from making changes to your desktop settings. Try this: make all the changes you wish to make in the Display applet in Control Panel - then, when everything is just the way you like it, it the "Themes" tab, click on "Save As" and give your custom settings a unique Theme name ["JunkYardJeff's" would seem like a keeper]. Click on "Apply" -- and then reboot, just to make sure the settings stick. They should.

If this is a work machine, let us know - you may have scripts running a startup, or Group Policies, that limit the amount of customization you can do.

Best of luck

Save it wherever you want. The default should be fine.

Beats me - I don't have XP and 2000 doesn't use themes - search for *.theme and see where they are. 98 used program files/plus!/themes.

Hi again

Like glc mentions, it really doesn't matter where you save your custom themes. The default looks like My Documents, but I've also seen them save to C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\Themes . . .

The standard "Luna" and "Windows XP" themes are stored in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

By the way - once you've created and named (with the "Save As" command) your custom theme, it should appear in that drop-down list of themes in the Themes tab of Display Properties.
