Since XP is newer, it won't let you install Win2k on top...You can either reformat or get a second drive and create a dual boot.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
To reformat and install 2000, set the boot order in the bios to boot from the cd drive first, insert the 2000 cd and save the bios settings. When you see the message "Press any key to boot from CD..." , press the space bar. When you are shown the XP install, Delete the partition(s), Create new partition(s), press Enter to start the new 2000 install. You will loose all data that was there under XP. And you'll have several major updates to do with Win 2000 if you don't have SP4.

hi

dos'nt sound too complicated , famous last words!!, the saving the bios options got me though, this is where it gets complicated, im building a computer from second hand bits kindly donated from a friend, motherboard (asus k8s mx) from a working comp, and 8gb hard drive with xp, from another comp, obviously there not really compatible so although when turn on it recognises the hard drive, cd and dvd drive but wont get me into windows, so my guess is to format and install a clean os and hopefully with a few bios changes can get it to boot all the way, you're probably laughing at this point!! im at the bottom of the learning curve,
great quote by the way...

The only thing you have to do in the bios is set it to boot to the CD drive first. Once it boots to the CD, you have it made. Choose Setup, and remove the partitions it finds.
