Problems installing WIN98

I'm help a friend to install WIN98 and face the following problems

1) During fdisk operations, the screen shows messages warning about changing
bootsector information and asking for acceptance by typing "Y" and the PC
was beeping like crazy. Anyway, the fdisk was done successfully (I think)
but I don't recall such behaviour when I was installing WIN98 on my PC.

2) The real problem is : When I install WIN 98, after "preparing for
installing", the PC froze. When I tried using WIN95, the same thing happen.
I did not do anything to the BIOS (cross my heart)

3) During bootup, the CD-ROM was not detected on the secondary IDE master.
(CD-rom works fine when installing "....CD-rom support" from floppy during
WIN98 installing)

Advice appreciated.

Go into your BIOS and turn off the boot sector virus protection.

Question

Hi, just to let you know installation is successful after disabling virus protection in bios. Strange thing is, there's 2 windows folder, an empty WINDOWS folder with a empty SYSTEM sub-folder and WINDOWS.000 where all the files are.

Also, boot-up doesn't detect CD-rom (secondary master) but it works fine in windows 98.

Other then these strange (to me) things, everything is working great.
Can someone enlighten me ?

Windows installed to \windows.000 because you had an aborted installation to \windows - and when you tried again, you accepted where Windows wanted to install. You should have changed that to \windows when it gave you the opportunity.

Don't worry about the CD not being detected by bios - it's not necessary unless you want to boot from the CD.

I personally would wipe everything out and reinstall from scratch to get Windows where it belongs.
