The computer is always slow to react to anything my friend does on it, if that be clicking on the start menu or open an application. The specs 2.4ghz P4 512 RAM 60gb Hardisk I have run AVG on the pc and it found no virus's, i have run spybot which found a few minor things and cleaned them. That machine has far too many "04" entries.
04's are the applications that start when windows starts, apart from the antivirus software all the others can be unchecked in the startup window of msconfig. Speaking of the antivirus software that machine is running McAffee a known system resource hog, uninstall it and install AVG7 a free antivirus from www.grisoft.com (look in products on the left of the site and click AVG free)

Looks like its running *both* AVG and McAfee - thats a real good way to bring it to a crawl - uninstall McAfee. Just use the Windows firewall.

The reason McAfee was brought and installed was because the computer was running slow and thought this may have been caused by virus's and spyware.

Start >Run > type "msconfig" > Startup
Then uncheck any unnessecary programs, I only have one running (that is my firewall). |

You need to close down those 04's via "MSCONFIG" first and just leave AVG7 running, make sure AVG is up to date and uninstall McAffee.
Once you have done that carry out some online scans at http/:housecall.trendmicro.com and http://www.ewido.net/en/ |
