Boom Vista Installation Painfully Slow!!!

I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.

I ordered the dvd copy of beta 2 as opposed to downloading. I began an upgrade installation and found myself babysitting the installer for about 3 hours, afterwhich I went to bed. Woke up 6 hours later and the damn thing isn't done yet! This is insane.

P4 2.6 HT 800mhz fsb, 1 1/2 gig ram, 80g hd, nvidia 6600gt 128mb

I know it's not top of the line, but it definitely falls within the minimum requirements.

Plenty of people have had similar problems including Hi Ho in this thread.

Are you trying to dull a full format and install or install it to dual boot? The dual boot one is the most problematic.

I've installed Vista many times and it "should" take about an hour...Most of my installs have been dual boots and average about the same as a single install....

It's been about six hours since you made this thread. Did it ever finish?

Yes it finally finished. In all took about 9 hours or so. I read other posts with similar hangs. Anyway, works fine, some driver issues that I updated. I've gone back to XP on my backup hardrive cause my wife complained of it running slow. Thanks for the replies.

If it's running slow...

There are issues...or you dont have enough ram...I installed it with 1gig of ram and it took less than one hour...Via chipset boards seem to be less problematic..

Also make sure when you install that you Dont have alot of things plugged into the pc via usb...use the basic install meathod....If installing on the same drive as XP make sure the partition is at least 50gig..

Most people that have had install problems has to do with hardware...finding that will iliminate the install problem....

The new build 54.** installs in less than 30minutes start to finish... so those want to try I'd wait for RC-1...

If you bought a copy of beta-2 then word is MS will contact you to see if you's like a copy of RC-1..(for a cost of coarse)...due in August...
