I got into this particular forum with the totally wrong attitude. After reading our forum commander's message to another member about opinions, I had to walk away and refocus.
Personally, I despise Windows 98 and Me. I'm glad that they are going away. But................ It was all that we had for a long time. There was a place for them in our lives. I see that we are here to learn and / or help people with their PC W98 problems. My solution in several instances has been simply: get rid of the OS. O.K. I still feel that way. I have a lot of experience with both systems - especially W98 se. I will do my utmost to offer any help that I can and try to keep my opinions to myself, if you must insist on holding on to these useless operating systems. THAT...............was my last opinion. Now, let's have some fun! |

I still have a problem - they are far from "useless". Maybe to YOU they are, but they sure aren't to a LOT of people. If an operating system supports your applications and is acceptably stable, that's all that counts. Yes, this applies to ANY operating system - Microsoft or otherwise. I happen to have an old 486 laptop here with Win95B that still works and does what I need it to. Keep that in perspective, please.

I am sorry that you have such a low opinion of 98 and ME, personaly I liked both OS's and had very few problems with them. At the moment I don't personaly have a machine running 98 or ME but I still have dozens of customers using them.
I have just had an old machine traded in against a new one and I am almost certain that I will clean it up and reinstall ME on it, I find an old machine with the side panels removed invaluable at saving time when I need to test a piece of hardware. They are perfect for swapping in a suspect harddrive and running diagnostic software on.

As I said: They had their place. I have an old IBM in the garage with 95. It still works when I plug it in. You are also right about swappage. Done it myself.
Also, as I said: If I can be of help, I'll try to help. |

Wow, and one of my next builds is gonna be a Windows 98 FE machine I'm gonna use for testing and to play auld games. Far from useless, methinks.

Yes , me too !
Respect to Windows 98SE - still running pretty trouble free on my stalwart old Thinkpad 560X. The hardware should rule , not the software. Talking of IBM, did you see where the US goverment has stopped buying Thinkpads because they think Lenovo/China is embedding some type of spyware on the motherboards ? IBM has such a great reputation- why did they sell it out of the USA. Doesn't make sense. |
