Hi there, whenever I start up my PC, I get a bunch of useless processes. I know how to stop them, but how do I get rid of them, for good?
Thanks in return. |

Are you referring to the Services in XP Home or Pro? If so, go to Run: services.msc and use this as a guide for which to Disable.

How do you know which ones it's okay to disable? Also, I am assuming that these processes are using RAM, correcat, so it is good to get rid of them.

The link I provided makes some recommendations but you still need to understand which ones you're disabling. For example, if you disable Computer Browser, you can't access other pc's on a network. If yours is a stand alone pc, then it's safe to disable CB. Similarly, Server is a service that can be disabled on a stand alone pc but if you are on a network and want to share a connected printer, Server needs to stay Automatic. Another one to watch is Wireless Zero Configuration. Safe to Disable WZC on a desktop pc with wired ethernet but not a a laptop with wireless. Disabling the WZC shuts down the Wireless. Each service offers an explanation of what it's is used for and which other services may depend on it as well as which services it depends on. Changing your Service configuration will take some time if you haven't done it before and may take some further research before you make changes you are unsure of.
