About SP(Service Pack)

Hi,

What else does Service Pack contain apart from fixes and security updates?

Does it also contain updates for drivers? I donot understand what are these drivers updates for? For example I have a LAN card or VGA card installed in my Computer, will this Service Pack update the drivers for these cards for me?

All of the above and sometimes it may have newer versions of a particular sub-program that is in Windows.
As for your particular NIC and video card, there may be individual updates for them.

Service packs do contain driver updates. For example, the Radeon 9700 Pro didn't have a built-in driver in XP SP1 but did in SP2.

XP SP2 is different to XP SP1 because it is not just a collection of security updates and minor fixes.

XP SP2 goes far beyond a typical Service Pack and introduces features that are NOT available as a single download.

e.g.

-The new Security Centre
-The new Windows Firewall
-The updated Windows Movie Maker 2.1
-Internet Explorer Add-on Management tool
-Pop up blocker in Internet Explorer
-Boot time security
-Execution Protection that stops malicious code running

and a few more....

More reasons why you should upgrade:

Boot-up is a dangerous time for your systems, a time before security policies to protect them may be active. Avoid danger with persistent policies.
