By definition it sould be that you have bad hardware or software , you can try disconect all your connected usb and other devices and try to start windows only with mouse and keyboard.
Then you can connect devices one by one and find out witch one is faulty(if any)! Or you have installed new software that cousing bloged start up try using msconfig and disable start up of that or any other suspicious start up procces!

Hi neffyh
. . . in addition to the good tips that macko has already provided, you also have the option to try using System Restore (you can do this from Safe Mode) = choose a restore point from before the problem started. You may want to run full-system antivirus/antispyware scans from both Safe Mode and Normal mode, just to make sure that (as macko also mentioned) it isn't unwanted programs causing the trouble. If you decide to look through your startup processes, and need help identifying them, there is a good list over at http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php The msconfig that macko mentions can be started from the Start/Run box = just type in "msconfig" (without the quotes). Another place you can view the startup processes from is the System Information utility. To reach that, go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information, and click the plus (+) sign next to the category "Software Environment", and then select "Startup" -- -- this list will give you not only the name of the process, but where it is being "called from" (such as from somewhere in the Registry, or in an ".ini" file, or from your Windows "Startup" folder on your Start Menu [which is listed as "Common Startup" in System Information]. Best of luck . . . Gary And Welcome to the PC Mechanic forums! |

I tried restoring it from a diffrent date before this happened but it didnt work. What if I choose system recovery. Does that mean you will lose all your documents?
