Not quite sure if this belongs here so admins feel free to move it is necessary.
My desktop PC has become a lot more unstable recently. Sometimes when booting up in the morning I get the BSOD which forces me to reboot, other times I'm just surfing the web or checking my e-mail and, again BSOD. Yesterday I left my computer on and when I came back I got an "explorer.exe error" report. As soon as I clicked on "don't send report" I got the BSOD. I thought that perhaps it was overheating so I cleaned all the heatsinks and I'm leaving the case open. But that didn't matter. Strange thing is that it happens when I'm using low-load applications. This never happens when gaming or video encoding or other high stress applications. A friend of mine had a similar problem a while back and he pinpointed it to the USB DSL modem that his ISP had provided. Had it replaced for an ethernet modem and the problem was solved. I have a different brand and model of USB-only DSL modem but, could it be the same problem? |

What is the error/STOP message when you get the bsod? That will help determine if it's a software or hardware issue. Also, if you suspect the DSL modem, have you tried running off line programs with the modem disconnected? If you still get BSOD's, then it's not the modem.

USB networking always brings a potential for instability - in this case because the modem requires a driver and it may be conflicting with other USB devices. Ethernet modems do not, the only driver required is for the Ethernet adapter.

Thatnks for the help. Sorry for the delay answering but I hadn't had any BSOD up until this morning as the PC was booting up.
the message I got was: Page in Nonpaged area Stop 0x00000050 (0dcdf0d58, 0x00000000, 0x8056e2f4, 0x00000000) Have no idea what this means. |

That's funny. I don't have any lexar USB products nor anything made by Lexar for that matter. The Only USB devices I have are a Microsoft Intellipoint mouse, a Sidewinder force feedback pro wheel, A samsung ML 1740 laser printer and the USB DSL modem.
Occasionally I plug a Creative Muvo TX FM and a Kingston USB flash memory. That would however mean that thero could be a problem with a USB device right? |
