Hi, my computer has crashed several times
(by my own doing or a virus) and I've had to wipe the hard drive. now that always works perfectly but I need to know how to use partitionmagic and bootmagic (or anything eles) to have two copies of xp available for boot. PartitionMagic works fine but whenever I try to install BootMagic i get a message saying BootMagic cannot install becuase there are no FAT partitions. Any help would be appreciated.

You would be better off using imaging software to create an image of your installation - to be able to quickly restore it in case of another boo-boo. You can store images on different partitions, extra drives, or external media. You are going to have a difficult time getting one copy of XP to activate twice. Look at Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost.

Hi, thanks for the help but that's not exactly what I'm looking for, my computer came with a copy of XP that I've been able to activate several times, twice on different computer, I don't know why its doing this but I'm not complaining
. What I usually do when my computer crashes is hook up another hard drive and use that to boot the computer and recover my documents (some 40gb worth of them) and that works fine its just harder to do, which is why I'd just like to have a backup operating system on my computer that can access my main partition (NTFS), can this be done at all?

Yes, you do it with the builtin XP dual boot. You do not need Boot Magic. Just install XP on C, then install a new copy on another partition.

All-right I might try that, but, If I do how will i be able to differentiate between the two copies of XP and will it ask me every time I start up
? If it doesn't ask me every time and I can differentiate it sounds good, thanks.

You can edit the boot.ini to differentiate between the 2 installs - and then you go into control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery - set the default there and maybe set the timeout to 3 seconds - enough time to use it if you have to.

There is a button on that page where you set the default to directly edit it.
