Win XP Mouse problem

randomly my mouse will start going out of control, when i move it the cursor starts going around the screen wherever it wants and randomly clicks on thing by itself. when i disconnect and reconnect the mouse it works fine for awhile, then it acts up again

anyone know if this is a virus or something i can fix? or do i need a new mouse

Optical mouse or ball mouse? USB, PS/2, or serial?

I'd give it a good cleaning first. Clean off all the rollers and try to get as much gunk as possible out of there.

It's always a good idea to regularly scan for spyware and viruses, though I don't know if that is a likely cause in this case.

That could be a stuck button or a bad sensor. I'd get another mouse and try it out. If you still have the same problem, it is probably software related. If you don't, then it is the mouse.

It could be a remote control trojan - you really need to do some malware scanning.
