Partition magic won't work on XP home

Hi
I am running Win XP home SP2 on a box I made using 1 g of ram a Biostar P4TGT motherboard and an Intel Celeron 2.4G CPU.

I have three partitions on my 120 G Seagate HDD
C: which is 30,427.8MB
D: which is 29,423.7MB
G: which is 71,217.8MB
and unallocated space of 21,556.0

D drive is filled up and i need to add space to it from either G or unallocated space.

I have Partition Magic 7 and yes I have RTFM. I still cannot get this to work either with a Wizard or manually.

Can anyone help me out on this please.
Thank you
XP is mentioned in the instruction book so it should work.

You probably need version 8. SP2 made some major changes. This is just a guess.

It seems such a shame that I paid $70.00 years ago for a program just to have it in a case such as this. XP is mentioned on page 7 of the instruction book although it is talking about running PM from the rescue disks.

Garyfl,
not sure if this will help you, but on one of mny boxes I use PM 5, along with 2000, and XP SP1, 98 second edition.
I had to load PM on W98 then use it to make the partitions for 2000 and XP.
2000 is extended.
XP is a primary.
They are all FAT 32.
Which everyone is going to tell you not to use of course.
Its been awhile, but if you go that route, ck and see if it makes a difference as to which OS is first. It used to matter which was first.

I am using PM8 with vista beta 2 and xp sp2, and it works fine.
hope this helps

Thank you for your replys. I figured Briab Guy must be right so I went to Compusa to buy a new Partition Magic 8. Then I saw it was made by Symantec. Symantec is one of the companys on my "black list" which means I will never spend another penny with them.

HP is also on that list but that is another story.

Then I saw on the shelves a copy of VCOM Partition Commander version 9. It cost me $48.35 and came with a rebate of $45.00 so it is almost free.

I hve not tried it yet but I will let you know how it comes out.

Thanks again
Gary

I know it is a little late to answer this post but just to be clear, Partition Magic was not made by Symantec. It was made by PowerQuest. And Symantec bought PowerQuest. It's not really the same thing when another company was the actual maker of a product as far as the quality of the product goes.

Maybe not, but he still doesn't want to put any more money into Symantec's pockets, just as I do not wish to do.

Also, since the buyout, Symantec has done some things with the software. It's not exactly the same as when it came over from Powerquest.
