Windows startup and shutdown....

For some reason the graphics have changed during startup and shytdown. For instance during shutdown it used to be a full screen saying that windows is shutting down but now it is a little box that appears. Same for startup. How can I get back to my original settings?

Have you made any hardware or software changes recently?
Have you tried a system restore back to before this started?

Well I was playing around with the network settings and I installed something that I don't normally need, I forget just what it was and that changed my start up and shut down graphics.

As for system restore, I get an error message when I click on the tab in the "system panel" So that does not work.

Your running XP on both those machines, have you thought about a repair install? considering you have this graphics problem and a system restore problem?

The repair install is a route i may take but I hope to try and solve these problmes first without going there and having to reinstall sp1 and sp2 because of the repair install.

I take it your copies of XP are pre service pack and you don't have a service pack 2 CD?
You could always order the service pack 2 cd http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

The service pack 2 cd took about ten days to arrive here in Puerto Rico, it's worth a try, I have used my copy lots of times doing repairs for customers.

OK I solved the problem. The solution was found in user accounts by checking off "use the welcome screen".
