Do you have a full version of Windows 2000 or an update from 98?

Do you know how to enter the BIOS and change the boot order of your machine?
What happens when you put the CD in your CD rom?

Check this site out and installing Windows 2000 is very similar up to a ( 9. GUI Setup begins ) it is a bit diferent in W2K but any way just folow instruction on screen!!!
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...p_sg_clean.asp
EDIT:
And compability list is a diferent for windows 2000 and link will show you and explain same principal of installing just for you to get idea what to do and where to look when installing, formating or deleting previous windows installation!!!
Ah yes the best way for you to delete previous installation of windows is to delete or reformat partition!!!
PARTITION:
Logical storage unit. One hard disk can be divided into one or more partitions. Each partition is regarded as one logical storage unit, and normally contains one file system. In the Windows operating systems (95/98/NT/2000) each partition is assigned one station letter (C:, D: etc). For the user it looks like there are several hard disks in the computer.
FORMATING:
is the first step in making the drive ready for use by a computer, it is a process that organises or allocates physical spaces for data storage.

NOTE: Once you enter Setup (of Windows installation) the best way is to folow on screen instructions by reading them in whole!!!

When prompted by the installation CD did you format the harddrive?

Windows 2000 does not use the same drivers as Windows 98. If you are going to wipe, you are going to wipe. As said before, you need to save what you need to save before doing this, EVERYTHING will be wiped.

Formatting is pretty much the only option you have when upgrading your operating system. Anything else is too much of a hassle.

Drivers are fairly easy to find, and we can help you with that.

Just save all of your documents onto a safe area on A DIFFERENT COMPUTER. Formatting will erase everything on the hard drive.

Before you do that, what I would do is put the 2000 CD in when IN Win98 - and tell it you want to upgrade. Before it makes ANY changes to your computer, it will give you a compatibility report - both software and hardware. That will tell you what drivers you need to go find. You can then cancel the upgrade, and unless your system is squeaky clean, I'd recommend you cancel and start from scratch anyway. You could *try* the upgrade and see how it goes, but be prepared to wipe and do it clean.
