See if anything in this thread at the AVG forum applies to your situation http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?7,50323,sv=

Is this a Win9x system?

Such files don't usually reside in C:\Command. Might check if anything is actually there [AVG's "reading error" may simply refer to this fact = there's nothing there]. You can use Windows Explorer to check [if you haven't already, make sure Windows Explorer is set to "show all files" in the View option menus]. No C:\Command usually exists, in fact, in Win9x [the Command folder is in C:\Windows\Command]. And no dlls whatsoever are found in the \Command folder - mostly .com, .sys, and .exe files. The four files you mention are usually Win9x files, and usually located in the C:\Windows\System folder (Kernel32.dll was misspelled a bit, but we don't throw anyone into the fire for typos)

I've seen cases where downloading the most recent version of AVG, disconnecting from networks & the Internet, uninstalling the older version, and then installing the new AVG, can resolve some odd read issues [they can trace to problematic .dat files created & used by AVG]. Then you can reconnect to networks & the Internet to grab the latest virus definitions.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[P.S. ... it does help us if you let us know the version of DOS/Win9x/Me you are using]
