ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter on ME

I was trying to free up some extra space on my ME today, but ran into a few problems. First off, I ran Disk Defragmenter and waited for it to finish. The problem was it never went past 0%, even after waiting for a few hours. My other problem is that I run ScanDisk and it works for a minute or two (the progress bars go up) but then it restarts. It keeps doing this and after the tenth time an error message pops up saying that it had to keep restarting, and that if I close all other programs it should be able to finish. The problem here is that I don't have anything else running. Thanks for any help.

Hi Mike

Restart your computer, and as it is restarting, press the F8 key = this should produce a menu from which you can choose Safe Mode. It's generally a good idea to run these tasks in Safe Mode, since it helps keep them from getting constantly interrupted. When you're all done, you can restart the computer & go back to running Windows normally.

Best of luck
