Windows XP MCE Default password ???
I just bought a refurbished MCE computer. When I first turned it on, it went directly to the desktop--no login required. AFter installing some software and updates, I started havng problems, so I did a system restore back to the first point available.
Now when it starts up, it shows a log-in screen for 'Valued Customer' and is requirng a password. I have no idea what it is. Is there a 'default' password that MS uses in this situaton? |

If such a default exists, I haven't heard of it. I imagine you'll need to contact your system vendor to obtain the password. Just to try - I suppose you could try booting into Safe Mode (tap the F8 key as the system is powering up), and see if your vendor neglected to password protect the built-in Administrator account - wouldn't be the first time for such an oversight. If Administrator is not password-protected, you can make a password for it (might want to write it down & store it somewhere safe) - and then change the "Valued Customer" password to your liking. "Valued Customer" rather sounds like a store floor-model demo unit.
If the vendor was nice enough to provide you with either a "Recovery Disk" or Ghost image to use for a completely fresh restore, those would do the trick nicely, perhaps even better. Best of luck . . . Gary |

thanks, Gary. The SafeMode method worked fine. (the company I bought it from didn't know what the password was)
