Windows XP can't load profile

Lately, I have been seeing errors in loading local profiles a lot. When this happens, users get a temp profile without any of their icons, favorites, etc. Obviously, this causes great heartache and many phone calls. The error message is this:

Quote:
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So, my main question is this: is there any way to get Windows to create a log of the processes that are putting locks on files on bootup? I can see which processes are locking which files after login, of course, but this happens before login. Any ideas?

first thing i would do though is check the the user is the owner of their profile folder.

running the 'net file' command from prompt will display file lcoks, but im not sure how you could make a log of it.

do you have any backup programs like IAB or veritas?
