Installing XP problems

I'm trying to install WinXP on a computer i just built. Until recently I've been running Linux fine on the computer, no problems. So I finally went out and go WinXP to install, and i have problems. I put the disc in and it says "Press any key to boot from CD", and I did, then it says "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..." and from there the screen goes black and just stays like that. I've waited up to 10 minutes for the screen to change and no change.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with Linux already being on my HDD, or perhaps that its a SATA drive, IDK.

Heres the core components of my computer:

Motherboard
ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard

Processor
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz HT Socket 939
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103535

Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144417

RAM
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440

Video Card
Leadtek PX7300GS TDH 256MB Geforce 7300GS 256MB Onboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814122239

Maybe i should give it more time to determine my components, but I doubt thats the issue. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback, thanks.

If you have a machine with a CD writer in it go to www.ultimatebootcd.com and downdload the UBCD, create an ISO from the download and use it to boot your machine, from the introduction screen you will be able to run diagnostics on your hardware and most importantly do a zero fill of your harddrive thus possibly allowing XP to install correctly.

I read on a different forum a guy who is having the same problem, and he is also comming from Linux. I think it has to do with Linux, so is there a way to completely wipe my HDD?

Yes, a zero fill as already indicated. Use Western Digital Diags or Killdisk or Darik's Boot & Nuke.

I had the same problem coming from Linux. I did a zero-fill and it solved the problem. Not to say that you can't install XP on the same drive but you should have separate partitions for the two OS's.
