received a Hewlett Packard Pavilion XL819 as a gift. I connected to the intenet to update etc. windows XP Pro and microsoft said it is prirated or not genuine. Checked on the side of the machine and it has a XP Home Edition tag. On the About windows It has version 5.1 (Build 2600-xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519:service pack 2) is there anyway of getting back to the orginal version? Or do I have to buy the Upgrade kit from microsoft?

if you do not have the orginal software that came wuth that system, then you may need to buy a new copy of windows, eather home or pro, and do a complete reinstall of all the software, if you do not have the cd's for any software, then you will need to buy that too.
or you could contact the person you got it from and have them supply you with the proper cd's for that system. |

You can probably still buy the recovery CD kit from HP for a lot cheaper than buying a fresh copy of XP Home for.
