resource conflict w wifi card
i reinstalled my wifi card after taking it out.. now in device manager i get;
"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (code 12) if u want to use this device u will need to disable one of the other devices on this system".. lalala.. how do i go about fixing that? (i've disabled everything i don't use, and theres not a whole lot, and, of course, it worked before) why do u always have to reinstall stuff when u move it or anything?? |

er, wouldn't that leave me with no wifi?.
..i'd rather not reinstall it again if possible, as its a PITA to reinstall. uninstall>restart>reinstall>restart>not detected. add hardware doesn't work. tries to connect to the internet to get it to work.. yes it does work eventually but its annoying/stressful and i'd prefer to avoid it if atall possible. i'd atleast like to know that it would fix it for sure if i go through all that.. |

Need to know what other cards and devices you have. Check the "PnP OS" setting in the bios - 2 choices, yes or no, whatever you have it set to now, try the other setting. Enable reset configuration data, save and exit.

no other PCI/PCI-e cards in there now. i did have a hauppauge winTV go! in there a bit ago. then, keyboard, mouse, HDD (samsung p120 250gb). theres a USB drive in there occasionally. thats it. And i've disabled quite a few of the motherbaord devices that i don't use too too- LAN, ide, floppy, serial, printer port.. so theres definately not a lot of things that there are to be causing a conflict.. it has worked in the same config before if that matters.. and having just double-checked; there is no PnP OS option in my bios. it doesn't support win9x if that is related..

I don't know if THIS is related, but I have a customer with a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop that just had a resource conflict that was knocking out the internal Intel wireless adapter. We did the following, I do NOT know which exact step fixed it:
1. Replaced the wireless adapter (mini-PCI card) 2. Updated the system bios. 3. Completely uninstalled the wireless adapter driver and supporting software (Intel Pro Set) 4. Downloaded and installed the latest driver and Pro Set software Dell support was no help here - other than sending a replacement adapter - they wanted him to reinstall Windows. 2 hours wasted on the phone talking to India. They did not suggest a bios flash OR driver/software reinstall, those were my ideas. |

well i got it working, but i still don't understand it.. i just went through a few of cycles of uninstall>turn off>remove card>turn on>reinstall>turn off>put back card>turn on..
lol, i thought u'd have realised by now that tech support were useless for absolutely anything but the most obvious things, especially when they don't even use their own products day in day out.. still, quite shocking they didn't even suggest a driver reinstall.. they should definately get some people who know what they're doing there, for those users who actually know how to use a pc.. |
