Greetings,
I am using Windows Media Center Edition 2005 I have a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop Set (Mouse and Keyboard) From the research I have done....I have found that it is the combination of the wireless mouse and keyboard and windows media center that is causing my screensaver/power saving options not to work on Windows. I have found if I disable ehtray.exe from startup it will work again. My questions are will media center options still work if I disable it such as (recording tv....the caller id option...and several other of the media center options) I know a lot of times the tray options are just to make things launch faster. Just not sure if ehtray.exe is one of those items. Also does anyone have another option around this bug? I purposely bought Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard just for the fact that I figured it would get along with windows better. I guess I was wrong. I have found lots of posts on line saying people are having this problem just no one has a solution it seems. Thank you in advance for any help that anyone can provide. |

Description:
ehtray.exe is a process is the tray bar process for the Microsoft Media Center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference. http://www.liutilities.com/products/...ibrary/ehtray/

From my tests that I have done recently....
Without the EHTRAY.EXE running...media center options like recording live TV (pre scheduled) does not run. (I am guessing that the caller id won't work either without it...but I haven't tested it) Figured I would follow up incase someone else had this problem. (Ending the process when it is not needed *no recording scheduled* works though because the process doesn't start again till you open media center) |
