Downgrade from XP to 98

How do I take XP off of a laptop and replace it with '98. Do I format the drive and then install 98? Because I think that there's a difference between the file systems isn't there? Please help.

You can still run Windows XP on a FAT 32 drive but as fas as I know if you convert the drive from FAT 32 to NTFS then you can't go back again.

If you want to know what file system its on at the moment then right button on the drive in My Computer and choose properties.

For installing Windows 98 the drive would need to be FAT 32

If you want to go from NTFS to FAT 32 you have to reformat.

You have to do more than just reformat - you have to repartition. You can use FDISK to delete the non-DOS partition, which is how a NTFS partition will show up.
