Double clicking a file takes ages to open

Hi All

I have a problem on a system where if i launch a file it will take ages to open! However if i open the file from within the application it opens straight away (opening work and then going file> open and selected file. Any ideas?

When did you last defragment your hard disk?

Could it be simply that the files on your system are so fragmented?
