Weird issue with installation of XP Pro

I'm experiencing something odd when installing XP Pro...

This is a re-installation. XP Pro was working on same h/w config prior to install.

I formatted and re-partitioned the HD.
I started the install.
The install runs smoothly until the restart just prior to the product registration.
After restart, I lose the video and get a black screen. I can hear the music playing, but there is no video.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Take the obvious solutions out of the equation by making sure your monitor is plugged all the way in. Tell us everything about your computer: brand? build it yourself? if so, list your main components. If you have a video card, not onboard video, check to make sure it's seated properly in its slot.

Yes, everything is securely connected.

I was able to get XP Pro to install, and I can launch it in Safe Mode.

I changed the screen res down to minimum, but I still get no video when launching in standard mode.

I've also re-installed the video drivers, the video card's status is "this device is working normally."

GOT IT!!!

The monitor was way older than I suspected, and the max refresh rate was lower than the XP default.

Thanks for your interest in helping me.
