Over two hours installing XP...
Is this normal... Its been over two hours just copying files to a windows folder and only 41% complete. Started system with XP in cd drive did the format. Its does say this will take several minutes to complete. Should it say several hours!! Did I do something wrong here??

That is far from right, if I were you I would run some memory tests and harddrive diagnostics.
Besides the monitor, keyborad and mouse, do you have anything else plugged into the machine?

If you are at the formatting the hard drive stage; I just did a system with a 80 gig HD and that took about 20 minutes to format. If you are formatting a 200+ gig HD, your times will be longer.
As for time to do the actual XP install(after formatting), could be from a 1/2 hour to an hour.

A really usefull tool is "the ultimate boot cd" you can download it here http://www.ultimatebootcd.com you can download an ISO and create a bootable CD with burning software, the UBCD contains several different harddrive diagnostic tools, memtest and a few other hardware diagnostic tools. To use it, put the UBCD in your optical drive, change the boot order in BIOS to boot from CD first, reboot your machine and you will then be presented with a very easy to follow welcome page. |
