Ghost Restore Partition on new Dell

Things are getting much more confusing for the average user. Most people do not understand to create their backup in the restore partition with the persistent Ghost 10 wizzard that relentlessly pops up. Now if someone has created this partition but did not pay to register ghost then later when disaster strikes and they need to restore will they have to get Norton Ghost 10 to restore their partition or will another prior version of ghost also restore the backup?
Or is there another program or free software which will restore a Ghost 10 created backup?
Any knowledge on this would be much appreciated.
I made the backup to D:\ ghostly backups for a customer but i am relatively certain that she will not register Norton Ghost. I need to know what to do when she needs to restore. I already explained that the backup is completely worthless if the hard disk crashes.
Waiting for you helpful feedback.

It has to be registered and purchased. This is why I uninstall Ghost on the new Dells I set up.

thanks glc,
i do have a copy of ghost 2005. part of my question is whether this will restore the Ghost 10 backup. any idea of yes or no on this question?
i have been seriously considering getting rid of ghost on these dells as you have done.
equally aggravating is Dell saying to click this link if you want a set of cds and the link is a dead end.
when i have time i may try using something else (saw some freeware the other day) and make a backup into that partition. then turn around and see how well it restores.
but glc thanks for the reply.
