Lost folder

I've got a friend who lost a folder he had on his desktop, it contained all the info he had for his business contacts and projects. He said he turned on his computer and the folder was gone, he did a system restore and the folder showed up but it was empty. Is there anything he can do or any program he can run to recover it?

That does not sound promising.

He lost the data prior to doing the system restore?

I would first scan the machine for malware using the programs listed in my signature. If the machine is clean, there are some data recovery tools that may help, as long as he did not restore to a point prior to when the data was added to that folder. Let me look through my tools and see what there is. I'll get back to you shortly.

You might want to download PC Inspector File Recovery or File Scavenger and give those a try.
