Psudeo Mail Exchange.....

OK, So I now have an older PC (XP Pro) dedicated as a firewall, anitvirus monitoring all content streaming in for the net and print server for my home...

What I would also like it to do is become a Psuedo Mail Exchange Server, that would allow me to access it from anywhere, (VPN if you will). Is there anyway to setup Outlook to do this, or can it only be done using Exchange Server Software?

Thought I'd ask..

Outlook is only a client so that is out. You could possibly use Mercury Mail by Pegasus. You could also get an old computer and install Linux/BSD on it with Postfix. That works pretty well. FYI, ISP's generally frown upon you running your own mail server and frequently block port 25.

Or you could vpn into the server and remote over to the main pc and read email off it.
