What system are you using? What do the recovery disks say? Drivers, system software, or just recovery disk?
Sorry, I didn't see your other post. Firstly, did you get into the BIOS? If not, you may have to reset it to set up the boot from CD option. All you should have to do is boot from the recovery disk(s) and allow it to copy your system back onto your machine. It will not be like setting up windows from a "regular" CD distribution. The last time I used a recovery disk, all that showed on the screen was a long list of files that were being inflated and copied. Last edited by DynamicTech; 08-19-2006 at 12:32 PM. |

The cd's are from Acer so have that logo on them with travelMate Recovery Cd on it with (XP Pro) under it. One has Disk 2-1 on it and the other has 2-2. I know the recovery cd's have image files of what was on the hard drive when it came out the factory, but I just want to do normal install which it now won't let me. Stupid recovery disks, why not just give oem xp cd's!!!

What do you mean by completely blank?
New hard drive or did you reformat it or something else? Did you burn a recovery disk, or do you just have the disks that came with the machine?

Windows wouldn't load so I reformatted the entire hard drive using my other computer. And the recovery disks are the one's which came with the laptop. I just assumed the cd's were like normal installation one's which u can put on a blank hard drvie, but apparently not. Thats why i'm hoping there's a way around it without me buying a oem version of windows to put on the laptop as it's £50 i don't want to spend really.

Those recovery disks use an image that is in a hidden restore partition on the hard drive to do the restore.
If you formatted that partition, you are out of luck as far as using the factory supplied restore disks. I'm not sure if there is a workaround that would work or not. You might be able to get a full install disk from ACER for a small charge.
