Remote Assistance - failed login
Ok, so Im attempting to assist my 65yr old Mom on her PC, who lives 1,000 miles away and is not very PC savy at all. I walked her through and had her send me a Remote Assistant Invitation file via email to me. however when using the invitaion file to attampt to gain access to her PC I get this error message....
"Remote Assistance could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved" I verified that remote assistance option is selected in both System Properties and in the Firewall settings on her PC. Her IP address is set for Obtain Automatically so I cant ping her... although she is connected via DSL Modem... I have also tried to connect via Remote Desktop (using the IP address indicated on her LAN details) which I recieved another error message: "The client could not connect to the remote computer" "Remote Connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections...." However on this one she does not have a password associated with her log-in, and if I recall that may be required. Remote Desktop is enables in FIrewall exceptions but in System Properties, there is no information regarding Remote Desktop in the "remote" tab. No its not grey'd out, its not there at all. So I'm wondering if I need her to download the client portion of remote desktop from the MS site... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...dclientdl.mspx would thishelp solve either problem... ideas for me to try... Thanks BV Last edited by brianvander; 08-22-2006 at 12:45 AM. |

If her DSL modem is providing network address translation (i.e. it's a router) it has to have a port opened and forwarded. I'd recommend using the free logmein.com service instead.
