Blue screen of death - HELP!

Hope you can help - this is really doing my nut in:-

About a week ago I started to get a blue screen sometime until finally all I got was a blue screen when it got to the point of windows loading. I couldn't use last know good config, or start in safe mode. The error message was -
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

Anyway, I tried a few but ended up doing a complete rebuild. BUT - after formatting, installing and rebooting I got a blue screen again and had to restart to continue setup. It completed OK, but I still get a blue screen sometimes that flashes too quick to see and then restarts.

This is very odd as it's a fresh install. Please help.....

Oh yeah - I also managed to try to download SP2 on one of the occasions it did fail when Windows started, in the hope it would fix it, but needed to download a few other updates first - but these failed. Why?

Here is the description for error 21A:

0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED

This occurs when Windows switches into kernel mode and a user-mode subsystem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS), is compromised and security can no longer be guaranteed. Because Win XP can’t run without Winlogon or CSRSS, this is one of the few situations where the failure of a user-mode service can cause the system to stop responding. This Stop message also can occur when the computer is restarted after a system administrator has modified permissions so that the SYSTEM account no longer has adequate permissions to access system files and folders.

If that's an OEM machine you have to go to the maker's site (Dell, Gateway, etc.) for the hard drive diagnostic.
If it's a home build get the diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturer's site.
Follow the instruction for loading it on to a floppy disk or cd (your choice) and put whatever drive you've chosen first in the boot order and so that your computer boots from the diagnostic program.
If you're still getting the same problem with a new install you have to check the hard drive for bad sectors.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. It seems fine at the minute but for how long I don't know. I have downloaded the Maxtor DiamondMax diagnostics, but it says it won't work with nForce4 chipsets - which I have. Is there any other software out there that'll check it?

The Hitachi Drive Fitness Test can diagnose any brand drive, it just can't do any of the advanced maintenance functions. If there is an error, it will simply come back with a screen that there was a problem on a non-Hitachi drive with no specifics.

Thanks glc. I downloaded it and tested - HD is fine. Ran Memtest too and got thousands of errors - look like I've found the problem! Still under warrenty so I'm going to have to send it back. Thanks for your help.
