some problems during winxp installation

I made 2 bootable floppy disk, 1 from winxp and other from win98 machine. I was just doing some practice installation of winxp and used win98 bootable/startup floppy disk for installation purpose.

I changed the boot priority from HDD to floppy drive and booted the system on win98 bootable floppy ,it took me to A:/> and from here I was able to access my CD-ROM drive and I successfuly ran smartdrv.exe file from my floppy which I copied from winxp cd and winxp installation was completed successfully.

But when I tried to do the same installation of winxp by using winxp bootable floppy, I couldnot access CD-ROM drive and as far as I remember I was neither able to run smartdrv.ex command in dos environment.

I donot understand whats the problem, why am I not geting CD-ROM drive from winxp bootable floppy disk?

Can any 1 help me?

WinXP is designed to be installed by just booting from the xp cdrom itself and it will get you into the installation/setup program from there. The XP boot floppy does not automatically load drivers for cdrom drive.

The floppy disk method for installing XP should only be used when you can NOT boot with the CD for whatever reason.

A boot floppy made with XP is not the same as a Win98 boot floppy. It uses a subset of WinME.
