Smile Computer Restarts When Using D: Drive

My computer restarts every so often when I used my dvd rom drive.

After it restarts it says that windows has revovered from a serious error and gives the following message:

C:\DOCUME~1\(Owner)\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER05d0.dir00\Mini082406-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\(Owner)\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER05d0.dir00\sysdata.xml

Anyone else have this problem or know a way to fix it.

Thanks

Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery, UNcheck restart on error.

Next time it happens it should bluescreen instead of rebooting and you can read the bluescreen to get a clue.

Exclamation

BOO HOO! It's started to happen again..AARRGGH!

I have run Trend Micro's Home Call and done seperate virus check with Norton.

I have also opened up casing of computer and checked attached correctly.

Also, I have deleted the DVD driver and then reinstalled it.

I have also deleted all the sysdata and mini.dmp files.

I think it might have to do with my video driver. I checked on a less reputable website and people said they had a similar problem to mine and it was caused by the video driver.

When I checked my NVIDIA file in C:/WINDOWS it has two folders. One called nForceWin2KXP and one called Win2KXP. When I check the contents of these folders it appears they have the same contents.

Could it be my problem is caused by these two folders conflicting with my system causing the crash?

Should I delete one of the folders? If so which one?

Hope someone can help

Please post the complete system specs of this computer. List all the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Is this a home built computer or a name brand one?

What OS are you using?

Do you have another computer? If you do, put the DVD drive in there and see if the same problem occurs. If it does, you need a new DVD drive. If it doesn't, more troubleshooting is necessary.

My computer is a AMD Athlon XP 2800+. 2.08GHz, 384MB of RAM.

System is Microsoft Windows XP Version 2002 (Service Pack 2).

The DVD Drive with the restart issue is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D.

NVIDIA nForce2 Memory Controllers.

Bought the computer from those great people at TINY (just before they went bankrupt )

Do you have another DVD or optical drive in there? If the problem doesn't occur with another optical drive then the Pioneer may be going bad. Try the Pioneer in another computer if possible.

Try disconnecting the working DVD and try the Pioneer by itself. Might want to try it on the other IDE connector of the cable ribbon too.

Now the dvd drive which was working fine has decided to do what the Pioneer drive was doing.

Placed a DVD which I had copied some files into the drive and a window came up as normal for the E:/ drive but it was empty...should have had files in it. Tried audio CD and that worked OK but DVDs I have burnt data onto don't seem to work now and it restarts the computer.

Just an update:

Didnt use my computer for a few days and both dvd drives appeared to be working fine with audio cds and dvds with data already written on them.

Just tried to burn a new DVD, stuck the blank disc in the dvd re-writer and the computer restarted again!!!!

Could it be a problem with just the discs I'm using? Have used these for ages and not had a problem before.
